If I started training MMA would it be bad for my boxing?

Hey. I've always wanted to be a pro boxer and still do, but I also want to start learning MMA. I was wondering if I start learning MMA would it hurt my boxing because the time being spent on learning grappling or kicks would be time I could spend on boxing.

Or would it help my boxing because i can view it as conditioning and it would help with my reflexes? Would it be smarter just to focus 100% on boxing if I want to be a pro boxer or would training MMA help?

    Thanks

Well if you want to be a pro boxer, then yeah, focusing more on that would help. I don't see anything wrong with training some MMA in your spare time.

Training MMA will make you the more conditioned athlete ,it will also help make you all around smarter fighter of all combat and should help your boxing and understanding youropponent better in and out of the ring . The down side is wear and tear thats something you will have to balance out, You may even find you may excell at MMA more than pure boxing ,again only you know that.Being a grappler first then boxer ive excelled at the striking more now ,however you wont catch me in a pro boxing match ,ive done other sanctioned boxing and grappling tournaments but as good as my boxing is ,im more cage prone. My advice is do both ,dont feel you need to rush ,fighting is a marathon give each time just do the boxing more if thats where you are at, on that note many athletes teams do MMA training from baseball to Football the first baseball team a few years back that incorporated MMA training won the world series that year.

Grappling wouldn't be the problem, footwork/stance would

Very diff basic stance is needed in MMA/kickboxing since you can't put too much weight on your front leg which is a target

In boxing elegant slick balanced etc... wouldn't work with someone kicking your legs

YOu might form bad habits from one
