You mean P4P? Hearns' prime was at 154 whereas Jones' was at 168 and 175. I don't know though. Hearns would still have that ridiculous height and reach advantage. Jones wouldn't have that much of a speed advantage either as Hearns would be the fastest and most powerful puncher he had ever faced by far in a P4P sense. One right hand on the temple and Jones is down and possibly out for the count.
Difficult choice. Could Jones have outboxed Hearns? He didn't have the style of a Leonard to go in on a seek and destroy mission to pull it out if he was losing so it comes down to whether Jones could outbox him, even though Jones would be at the same huge height and reach disadvantage and whether he could take one of Hearns' right hands on the temple.....?
lmao.yall try and make stuff to difficult.they couldve fought a m.w if they were closer in age and prime.but if taking a 154 lb hearns vs jones, tommy stands no chance.jones jr was probally the most offensivly gifted fighter in history.jones didnt have problems with righty's it was south paws, and reflexes much to good to be bothered by a jab.jones could throw bombs from both hands while tommy was more 1 handed.prime hearns got bombed out by hagler in 3,jones gets him gone in 1 or 2
P4P, probably Jones. Hearns is notoriously difficult to time, though. Watch Leonard struggle to counterpunch him and Sugar Ray could flat-out box. Roy was an entirely different animal, though. He wasn't interested in technical counterpunching (probably a bad word choice, but whatever) as much as just raw reflexes and blazing speed. I could see him time Hearns much better than anyone else could, but if Hearns lands a big right hand, it's good night for Roy. I give a close, close nod to Jones, couldn't tell you how it ended. They were both so versatile that it could have ended up a KO for both fighters or a decision for both fighters.
