I sure hope that you have seen a prime Toney and is not just going by a fight in which he was fat, out of shape, weight drained and unprepared. You should check out his middleweight fights. He was a lot better than what he showed that night and everyone knew that it wasn't Toney in there. Great performance by Jones though.

He was just brilliant and he was past his weight class when he fought the best undisputed cruiserweight champion and beat him. He was about to stop him and that fight is what broke Jirov IMO. He was never the same becuase there were moments that he could have stopped baby Joe Mesi but he just wouldn't fight. Even then i had Jirov winning.

for him to beat vassiliy at cruiser who exposed a good heavyweight prospect is incredible. joe mesi was a solid heavyweight. for toney to beat a cruiserweight champ like vassiliy who was competitive at heavy was amazing.

though not really that amazing because toney ended up being a solid fighter at heavy as well......

Yeah, Jirov beat Mesi badly and sadly(at the time) put him in a coma and there was a scare there for a moment. Jirov was an underachiever IMO. I have been watching him ever since he came from the Olympics with Tarver. He just didn't have the mentality to fight on after the Toney fight. He was mentally broke.

I also had Toney beating Peter in their first fight. Its incredible when you think about the fact if Toney had came in shape for their first fight and the first fight with Rachman, then he would have beaten both of them.

He also fought the best and never avoided anyone becuase he wasn't affraid to get a loss, even when he was in his younger days on the pound for pound list. I am a Mayweather fan, but he is not fighting the best as of now the way he did when he was in his prime.
the only time you can really, i mean, REALLY fault him for not taking on the best is at 147, thats it. you and i both know at 140 there was really no one for him to fight, with cotto being too green and hatton outright refusing to fight him, there wasnt much he could do.

I don't believe this arguement but many people accused him of avoiding koysta Tsyzu. I agree with you though, he fought the best at super featherweight and lightweight, but thats the only weight divisons. Toney has more weight classes on his resume with better champions IMO. The thing that Mayweather has over Toney is his unbeaten record and consistantcy.

i think toney and mayweather have their pluses and minuses, even though i agree mayweather is kind of wasting his talent, toney has had equal amounts of underachieving, even at HW, considering his steroid use has removed years off his career with inactivity. however him winning and being a contender at heavyweight is a crazy feat within itself.

The Kostya Tszyu argument is ****** and the ONLY time ive seen that is from detractors from the internet. line that one up with freitas, casamayor and jorge barrios, along with him ducking morales, barrera and pacman. since they "all fought at 130".

Close call but I went with Mayweather for consistency and the ability to always rise to the occasion. Both fighters have wasted a lot of their prime years and as such both of their legacies will be hurt.
