Yeah Infact If Cotto takes over and dominates the division (something Floyd Never did) Long term it would hurt coz Cotto's fan base will grow even more and he will be known to many as the man who ran Floyd out of boxing
I don't think it hurt PBF at all long run because in the future people will always bring up what ifs regarding the two. To my knowledge, this fight was never even attempted to be made, so how much can a fight that was never even close to happeaning blacken your whole career.

First you said that Duran was a quitter, when he is easily a top 5 pound for pound great and arguebally the greatest lightweight of all time. Then you said that Leonard was hype, when he is a top 10 all time great and many people not only consider him greater than Mayweather, but an all around better fighter as well that defintiely took the bigger risks. He also won the Olympic gold medal. You just seem misguided, but now i understand that you are only a casual fan so its understandable.

I love how the same people who are ultra critical about steroid use, happen to be Toney fans yet always sweep that issue under the rug.

          lol.

As for the topic, Mayweather has accomplished Way more.

For me tho James Toney is possibly the most complete fighter ive seen
Hmmm, I agree. James Toney at his best, in my opinion anyway, is a much better fighter than Mayweather could be. It was a pity he had to fight Jones Jr though as, at that stage, Jones could have beaten anyone. Mayweather is undefeated and that does count for something, but, then again he didn't have to fight a Jones Jr did he? Some might even say he could have beaten Jones, but, he has never even fought anyone close to the skill of Nunn, Johnson, McCallum etc. We'll never know, whereas for Toney we do know truly good he is.

Nonetheless, the losses and bad fights here and there, sadly, do count against him. Some people take losses into account much more than they should and not the fact that he has always come back from his losses to do what no one thought he could ever do again. That counts a lot for me. It really does take an amazing fighter to get back up after the losses he had.

My personal opinion is that Toney is the better fighter and for me I do consider him as being greater, even if Mayweather came back and beat Cotto, all around.

But, if you look purely at the records etc and how things are considered these day then nearly everyone will choose Mayweather because he is unbeaten. You could talk about consistency also. Mayweather didn't fight every month when he was champion though either did he? Nor, when he moved up, did he take the hardest possible fight available immediately. So, it's hard to say. I could go with Mayweather on his supposed consistency, but I don't actually consider him to be that consistent as he hardly fought much when it comes down to it. I think you have to take into account just how much Toney did fight as a champion. It's unheard of for contemporary fighters and he was, at some stage, going to have a bad run from fighting so much.

Nonetheless, he has always beaten the top fighters in his weight class. That to me is consistency. Whether or not he had a bad fight every now and then doesn't really matter overly much for me as he always came back from it. I find that very important.

I personally find Toney to be the epitome of a truly great fighter. Fights every possible opponent and champion no matter what. Comes back to great form after losses. Has never really been beaten. Jones beat him of course, but I mean beaten. He's great. Amazing fighter.

As for the poll, I don't know. I think I'll wait to see of Mayweather does come back. Otherwise it's Toney for me.

                come on guys......

we need more votes for james.

the fact that it's a landslide for floyd jr. is an embarassment to this forum.

Do you really think James should go down as being better than Floyd? I am a big Toney fan and I sure as hell don't. I thought the Floyd haters would be the only ones voting for James in this poll.

the guys is suppose to have 2 belts at heavy right now......

the wba if he didn't fail the 'roids test.

and the draw with rahman was bull. i had james winning that.

that's belts at 160 , 168 , 190 and heavy. 175 if you count the fringe orgs belts.

Yeah I know all this. I still would not place James higher than Floyd in all time p4p rankings.
