Comments Thread For: Shaw Not Happy With Kellerman "Ignoring" Geale

Promoter Gary Shaw is annoyed with the post-fight treatment of Daniel Geale by HBO's Max Kellerman. Last night at New York's Madison Square Garden, Geale (30-3, 16KOs) was stopped in the third round by WBA/IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (30-0, 27KOs).

Following the fight, as part of HBO's live broadcast, Kellerman was interviewing Golovkin regarding his victory. Shaw, at the direction of HBO, brought Geale over for his post-fight interview, but indicates that his fighter was ignored and eventually left the ring.

That was kind of wrong. I wanted to hear it from him, Geale, how it felt, as soon as possible. It would have been better than reading a filtered version today. That had to hurt in such a way that he had time to gather his thoughs, phrase his wording. He might have said something, like "what count?".

Kellerman would have talked to him if there was something to talk to him about. Period.

Shaw is off his rocker, will all due respect your fighter was still in limbo on his way back to the locker room go look at the footage..he can't walk straight but you want him interviewed? When a fighter can't walk a straight open path and requires one of his cornermen to help stabilize him and push him forward towards the locker room the last thing he should be doing is an interview. Geale was fked up. All the respect to Geale but he was fked up after that last knockdown.

I'm not really sure how it works - does Kellerman have free rein on whom he interviews or does HBO tell him directly in his ear pierce what to do? Shaw mentions that they HBO asked Geale to stand in line to be interviewed - really? I'm not sure it's entirely Kellerman's fault here.

STFU Shaw...what was Kellerman supposed to do? cut the GGG interview short for Geale? or have GGG hold his hand so he doesn't feel ignored?
