Mexican star Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (44-1-1, 31KOs) is focused on fighting on the Cinco De Mayo date of May 2nd and says he will be 100% healthy by the time the fight comes around. Canelo was initially set to return this Saturday night against Joshua Clottey, but he withdrew from the contest with an ankle injury.
Serious negotiations are taking place for Canelo to face WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (39-4, 32KOs) on the May date. He plans to start training in the next few weeks once the rehabilitation is complete.
