Ward is a masterclass boxer, but I saw a slightly locked Ward and with less skills than years before. I think he should take at least two fights for greasing the gears before Kovalev. Maybe against Pascal and Fonfara, these would be great fights. Or even Stevenson.

He has only fought four times since 2012, he needs to take more confidence and to get sharper if he wants to have any chance with one of the best P4P nowadays, who has fought 12 times since 2012 with the best of the division.

Today I bet for Kovalev (60:40), but if Ward makes some fights before, I think the tables will turn.

Even so, in my opinion super-middleweight division is a little bit big for Ward, but in shape he can be the best in this division too.

I also take bets that he will not.

(Kovalev is just trying to lure him for November... We'll soon find out what Ward intends to do next.)
i think so too. will try to push it to 2017. but like i said to the other posters, his fans are the ones that want him to fight 2 more times, he didn't get my post. if you read the other threads most are saying "2 more fights and he is good to go"

... For Ward "2 more fights and he is good to go" could mean from 1 1/2 years to "who knows?"

          That's my major concern.

If Ward put together 2 quick fights before November, I wouldn't hold that against him as long as November meant Kovalev or Stevenson.

But the fact that Ward has fought at LHW for 3 years, it's sad that he needs more "tune ups". And those tune ups will likely stretch across 2 years.

Why are people saying he needs 2 more fights? He gets great sparring and is a consummate pro. He was fighting a fighter more crafty than kov, but less aggressive. He needs to fight a strong come forward fighter to tune up and as his third fight in 8 months, he should be ready. Almost constant camps he should sharpen.

Apologies, I see your point, and I agree.

But I don't see an issue with that at all.

              Kovalev is a beast.

Ward may fight him after his next match-up, but personally I would be advising him to fit in 2 more fights, and look at facing Kovalev early 2017.

The thing is, Kovalev is not getting older, he is getting better...... that is plainly obvious.

He is on a steeper learning curve than Ward is right now, so early 2017 will not negatively affect him.

Ward taking his time to get back in the groove before facing the best guy in the division is a no-brainer really, not sure why that other guy is bashing the idea, he is negative about EVERYTHING...... I doubt that he is a genuine boxing fan.

smh, do you know when the last time he weighed in at 168 or below was?

Just because the media tells you he is making his debut at a weight doesn't mean ****. He's weighed in at 170 or more twice now and if you didn't know, 169-175 is LHW.

                  It's not rocket science.

                    * He never fought a LHW opponent, until last weekend.
