He pulled back on a lot of punches and was really hesitant. He was getting tagged by that right hand. Is diva Ward tags him like that it could be an early night.

I get this. I want both guys to be on absolutely top form for November. Chilemba was always going to be a tricky opponent to look good against, but it did appear to me that Kovalev was just looking a touch off- in his timing especially - whether it was homecoming nerves, the fact that it was the site of the Simakov tragedy or the result of sickness, I suspect that the Kovalev of last night would have been dissected by Ward. All I want to see is the best version of each in the ring and may the best guy win.

Right-on. I appreciate Kov fans who can respect reasonable criticism of the guy and know that a critique doesn't = hate. I actually think Kovalev is the cat's pajamas as a fighter and don't hate him at all. That's why it's particularly disappointing when childish fans take it down that avenue. I didn't like seeing him look off today. He's better than that and I'll still like him, no matter what happens in the Ward fight.

I'm not whining about him making excuses. He's just being honest about things. I could tell something was wrong... either he wasn't well, or he was holding back to get 12 in for better prep for Ward. Because normally he isn't that tired by mid rounds, and normally he isn't tentative. I could tell he struggled a little, vs a very awkward fighter, and I can imagine being sick while in training camp has to be tough. Bottom line though... he withstood it and won handily. I'm sure he and JDJ know they have work to do, and they'll get it done. Like others, I want the best Kov and Ward to go at it.

He dropped his opponent, and won convincingly. Think what you want, it's a UD win. And he'll give Ward as much as he can handle. But hey, keep thinking your hero gets a walk-in-the-park vs Kovalev. Your loss not mine, friend.
