Comments Thread For: Kovalev Confirms Jackson Split; Explains Need for New Trainer

LAS VEGAS Sergey Kovalev confirmed Saturday that he'll no longer work with longtime trainer John David Jackson. The former light heavyweight champion called Jackson "a nice guy" during an interview session with reporters at MGM Grand, yet revealed he doesn't feel he learned much from Jackson during their time together. Their parting of ways was expected since Andre Ward stopped Kovalev in the eighth round of their light heavyweight championship rematch June 17 at Mandalay Bay Events Center.

Kovalev wants the cheapest trainer available. Most likely will get a guy from Russia & pay him peanuts.

            KOVS strengths:

            1. Good power

            2. Good jab when he uses consistently.

            KOVS weaknesses:

            1. Soft in the body

            2. Poor inside fighting ability

            3. Lack of stamina after 8 rounds.

            4. Doesn't fight well moving backwards.

Smartest trainer out there now is Virgil Hunter. Kov should have him on speed dial.

As a big fan of Kovalev, I hate to say this. But Ward did break his soul. There's no spiritual trip or new trainer that will give us back the Krusher of old, I'm afraid.

Both Kov and JDJ seem shady . One for being a hard headed selfish d*ck . And the other for being a snitch . They deserved each other !!!

I agree... either Hunter or Garcia would 180 his career...

Nothing wrong with tryna fix yourself and grow as a fighter. Sometimes you learn all you can in one direction and need to choose a different path. Broner should take notes
