Comments Thread For: Arum: Haymon, Wilder Were Wise To Walk Away From DAZN Deal

By Keith Idec - Bob Arum agrees wholeheartedly with Al Haymon. Yes, you read that correctly. The antagonistic adversary who's rarely shy about blasting boxing's most mysterious figure actually applauded him Thursday. From afar, Haymon has absorbed a lot of criticism this week for guiding Deontay Wilder a...

He's only speaking out of self interest because without Wilder Fury is NOBODY on ESPN.

Wilder's mouth/style/knockouts will put asses in seats anywhere and on any platform.

Fury cannot be a star in the U.S market without Wilder's name attached to him, especially with no one to fight on ESPN. Fury can carry against bums in the U.K no problem though.

Arum and Haymon are both desperate to defend the existing PPV model. They've built their empires upon it and if DAZN succeed in disrupting it they're in big trouble.

Understand what's happening here. It's not really about Wilder or Joshua, it's nothing about cowardice from either man, it's about a fight between alternative models of how to deliver boxing to US fight fans and this fight, as the biggest that can be made right now, is simply the battleground where these networks have chosen to fight.

US fight fans who are celebrating Wilder refusing this offer should look at how these decisions affect their own pockets. Compare the amount they would've had to pay for two PPV fights on Showtime PPV, say $180 for two months of DAZN subscription, $40 under the new plan, or $99 if they want all of DAZN's programming for the next year.

Wilder's team are backing the old way. They've turned down an offer that was above what the market would likely deliver in the hope they'll get more eventually and maybe they will or maybe they won't. What is clear is that the only place this additional revenue is coming from is the pockets of US boxing fans.

It’s deeper than just that. The last thing he wants is dazn putting fights like joshua vs wilder for 9.99 a month when he’s trying to charge people extra for the likes of Crawford vs Khan. He definitely has an agenda here but it will be fun seeing those who never believe a word he says take this statement as gospel

Smart move by team wilder.cause wilder would have regret doing that dazn deal only getting 40mill for the Joshua fight when this mega fight can bring in record breaking numbers.joshua would get way more than then that 40mill.such a rip off.

This doesn't make much sense really. Arum is basically saying he thinks Wilder defeats Fury the guy he just signed because he's suggesting fans need to wait until Wilders greed is satisfied after he defeats Fury and wins to make the AJ fight bigger ? Ha

It’s a smart move if you don’t want to take a risk to become undisputed champ

Hopefully Finkel has given wilder a pay rise because he’s getting milked and made to look a puppit
