Carbs are not bad when trying to lose fat. The most important thing is your calorie intake like HedonisticFrog already said. The rate of progress is mostly determined by the size of your calorie deficit.

When your calorie deficit is too great you could lose weight too fast and lose muscle aswell. That's why a smaller calorie deficit of 500 calories or less is often recommended to preserve muscle. When your calorie deficit is non existent or you eat more than you need, you won't lose any weight no matter if you eat protein only or carbs/fat only.

It is also important you keep stimulating your muscles through workouts to preserve muscle.

Finally your macro's are important and there's a place for carbs, protein and (good) fats. So there is no explicit need to cut out carbs entirely.

I think those three things are pretty much the most important facts you need to know if you want to lose fat.

Also keep in mind that wheter you like what you are eating will determine your succes aswell. The succes of any diet is ultimately determined by the ability of the user to succesfully execute it. If you make a food plan full of healthy food sources that you despise then your food plan looks good on paper but it will ask much of your restraint and it will be hard for you to stick to.

Yea calorie is a unit of energy and can't disappear.

Yea you are right a calorie is a calorie and a calorie deficit leads to weight loss

My point was because protein suppresses appetite more than carbs and fat, the person on a higher protein diet will naturally consume less calories.

Yep, and it's backed up by countless studies and you lean all this in the first year of everything from a PT course through to a medical degree.

This rubbish about protein making you feel fuller is a push from the marketing companies for their protein powders no doubt, condoned by someone with a qualification on their payroll. As you said, its pseudoscience. I didn't need to read either article

Let Jas keep eating his protein shakes and think he's doin him the world of good.

On that subject, there is a way to get more use out of protein. You can force your bodies cells to let in and utilise more for growth and repair. It's called "steroids" which are accompanied by their own health effects. Similarly if you consume more than what your body can normally utilise in the form of meat or milk then more protein than usual is used too. This is not because of the protein in meat or milk though, it is because of the animal fat in it. Animal fats contain natural "steroids" which enhance protein uptake.

So assuming your not on roids, all these guys downing jugs of pure protein powder are doing little more than trashing their liver and kidneys trying to convert the protein into glucose, using what little their body allows them for growth and repair and pissing the rest down the toilet.

Carbs are good but you should be eating foods with low gi such as whole grains and brown rice etc.

I normally eat most of my carbs at lunch which is beans and brown rice, this gives me heaps of energy for my workouts in the late afternoon.

I find if I reduce my carb intake too much then my energy levels and workout intensity will suffer as a result.

I can see carbs before lifting..but if you are doing cardio only should you not eat carbs before running?? because won't you be burning the carbs off first before you burn the fat?

carbs, especially sugars, and processed grains, are easily stored as fat if you're not active enough.

should you be eating a huge plate of pasta if you want to lose weight? obviously not.

you need some carbs, fat, and tine in your diet. you can do whatever you want with your diet in short bursts. if you cut carbs out of your diet completely for a long time, you will be unhealthy.

Want to know whats stored first as fat? It's fat since it doesn't even have to be changed into fat to be stored. It's also irrelevant to weight management what is stored first. I eat a high percentage of carbs when cutting weight so I can still work out hard and I lose weight. It's all about the calorie control. Here's some proof in case you missed it earlier.

for starters, your post is a straw man. it makes the assumption, or is designed to imply that i'm saying that simple sugars and processed grains are stored more easily as fat. i never mentioned fats in that context.

eat granulated sugar for a week and post a link again like it matters.

being healthy and performing at a top level goes well beyond calorie control.
