Maybe I articulated what I meant the wrong way.

I mean, Five Finger Death Punch was a “heavier” sounding band that had some success.

Not a huge success like some of the other rock bands previously mentioned, but I would classify them as a band that “made” it.

And I haven’t listened too much of their new stuff, but they’re definitely different sounding and trying to appeal to a “softer” and “deeper” sounding style of rock. A more “mainstream” style.

Like, “Judgement Day,” is definitely a change of style, tempo, and sound from a lot of their other stuff.

And that goes back to the original topic of rock music evolving.
I'm sure they have evolved their sound. There's only so many songs of the same type they can make.

The original topic was about where the rock hits are. Not bands that "made it" nearly two decades ago anyway

My main music tastes are guitar orientated, so its not like I'm hating on the genres. But let's not pretend it's still as big as it once was.

Hell yeah man. Steel Panther is evidence of that.

          Grunge killed rock music.

Took all the fun out of it.

Dude they're AWESOME. Speaking of funny bands that can play, I heard Tenacious D broke up. You can look up why, as they don't like us posting political stuff on here these days. We'll always have the memory of their classics still though, like Wonderboy, Dio and Cosmic Shame still, I guess.

Classic Shoulder, always talking confidently on matters he clearly knows nothing about.

Pop punk was huge in the late 90s and early 2000s. That came AFTER grunge.

Look up how many records Blink 182, Sum 41, The Offspring and all those other Warped tour bands sold. They was all about fun and not taking themselves seriously.
                  Mammoth Mammoth likes this.

Okay, I guess we say pop punk killed rock instead of grunge?

But seriously, I love Offspring though, I even like all their radio friendly poppy songs. Not a big fan of Blink, but they're from the same city/county I'm from so I have a soft spot for them.

I used to hate on Green Day when I was an "edgy" wannabe hardcore teen lol, but I listened to their Dookie album as an adult and realized every song on there was really good.
