Mmm. What have we got? Maybe 3 or 4 people picked already? My inclination is simply to not run a Pick Em this week.. I had been intending to simply take a back seat this month and see how things went but since it looks like I'm back behind the wheel my first thought is to scrap it.. Only reason not to I think is to keep the numbers up for this month but honestly I don't think either of these warrant inclusion - and if we do want to get some more Pick Ems in for August I'd do it by including one of both of the top undercard fights for the 20th, Hrgovic vs Zhelei or possibly Mundo vs Bauderlique, both are pretty wide oddwise but nothing like the x4 dogs we'd have this week... Think Zhang is like +600 (x3) and Bauderlique +550 (x2). Suppose we could even go with Jack vs Rivera with Rivera about +250 although it's a 10 rounder and Badou ain't really done... erm... Jack at Crusier to date.

Anyways, thoughts gents? We run with these mismatches since the thread's already up or just abandon thread? Also be appreciated if I can get some input on next weeks fights from anyone who cares to comment.. Mammoth asgarth SUBZER0ED BLASTER1 MikeyG SteveM ruedboy RJJ-94-02=GOAT and of course anyone else who got an opinion

    Regards

Hmm, I would definitely leave at least one fight for this week. I think it is bad for the overall flow of the competition if too many weeks are skipped (I know it is not in our hands if there are meaningful fights that week) and the week before was skipped, so...

Is it just me, or there's a little bit of crisis over here?

Meh, not really. Slight philosophical disagreement between NC and myself combined with a diplomacy failure on my part. Definitely should have handled it better, but I ain't willing to compromise on being open to change, flexible and inviting of player input so it is what it is. Had been hoping I could let go of the reins for a short while with the longer goal of sharing the workload on a more permanent basis, but no rest for the wicked I guess.

Can I just make picks without a method?

No rest for the weekend, as well

I was actually referring to the League's current atmosphere in general - I perceive a slightly diminishing enthusiasm, overall - but it probably depends more on the absence of meaningful fights than anything else.

Ah yeah, there's normally a bit of a slump around this time of year and typically we drop from 30 odd active players before summer to mid 20s by September... a perennial problem which I ain't - yet - come up with a good solution to. Fatigue tends to set in plus quite a few people have a break for family holidays or whatever and the schedule drops off and people just don't come back till the next season. Guess it's one argument in favour of at least trying MikeyG suggestion of dividing the year into 2 (or even I'd possibly suggest 4) blocks... though I think figuring some way to still retain an overall annual winner possibly by totalling the quarterly / biannual scores by player.

Just a correction, it was SteveM who suggested it and I agree. It is a great idea to manage the flow of pick em and also to maybe attract more players, imo

Yeah no problem, although there's literally no penealty for getting the method and detail wrong so all you're doing is reducing the maximum number of points you can get. By just picking the winning fighter your highest possible score is 20 before any multipliers whereas correct method and detail can gain you an extra 10 points each for a maximum 40.

Great to see you showing an interest though man, I was literally just discussing how we usually lose players over August cos of the scheduling slump.

Was it? Ha... my memory for detail ain't what it was, ah well thanks to SteveM then I reckon... it's an idea that has been brought up in previous years but I'll put some more thought into the practicalities of it. I'm not sure BigPoppa is gonna be offering up more prizes so there might not be any material reward but I guess bragging rights gotta count for something.
