That's what I think as well. I generally think that Canelo looks better when a fighter comes to him because he has excellent counter punching abilities both to the head AND body.

Andrade was doing EXACTLY what I thought he needed to do early on which was focusing a lot on that breadbasket with the southpaw straight left. Punchers with a big chin generally are mentally bracing for taking shots to the chin (because it's usually the natural instinct for someone to go to the head), so going to the body (especially considering David might be really sweating down to 168) might leave him more susceptible to it. It was logical thing to do, I thought. Problem is David hits like he's got rocket launchers for arms and Boo Boo wasn't built for the grit. The fact that Plant was able to tough it out for 12 means the guy has balls.

All credit to Benavidez for that win but I still have an inkling Canelo beats him. Do I like Benavidez's chances more after Saturday's performance? Sure. But I'mma let a couple weeks for the recency bias to subside.

In the meantime, Canelo's got one more fighter to get by while Benavidez sits around or takes a warm-up before the inevitable showdown in September 2024 for the big one.

    .................

Now that I think about it, I really hope they give someone willing to put up a fight this time against Canelo. I'd be willing to favor David only if Canelo struggles mightily against his next opponent or they feed him an absolute door mat. It would be extremely detrimental for your last two opponents to be Jermell Charlo (who took a page out of Joshua Clottey against Pacquiao and did jack) and then Jermall Charlo (only Jermall has a mental breakdown Oliver McCall style in the ring coming out to round 6) and Canelo is declared the winner by TKO.

You barely get challenged or hit in a year and then you go from those two fights to Benavidez...? Yikes.

It's probably like running 2 miles in the suburbs at a 1.5 incline with balmy 85 degree weather for a year and then signing up to do a 13.1 mile half marathon with multiple 6.5 inclines under the sunny 97 degree scorching sun.

    It's a big change.

Having said all that...I gotta' give Canelo the benefit of the doubt. I still feel he can pull this off.

Because Benavidez is at his peak, whereas Canelo is on his way down.

Looked at coldly, Benavidez looks rather open to me. Canelo hits hard enough and accurately enough to make David cautious about rushing in. If his output is restricted, how is he going to beat Canelo?
        Agree.

You watch boxing long enough, you get a little desensitized to punchers.

I like Benavidez. He seems like a good guy, but I just don't think he's gonna' be something that Canelo hasn't seen before. Canelo has seen all sorts of styles for nearly 20 years now in professional boxing...Benny's strength is that he might be in his physical prime but I still don't think he has the overall package to upend Canelo.

If Benavidez had great movement, and a world level defense 'Then the dynamic of this fight would be entirely different, it would be a much more difficult fight for Alvarez to win'.

Benavidez is going to be right in-front of Alvarez at all times with a not so great defense.

That is why I believe it is a fight where Alvarez's more sophisticated inside game and defense will enable him to win more rounds over the distance.

Note: The issue Alvarez had vs Mayweather Junior and Bivol is that ? 'They both disallowed him to fight in his strongest area, which I believe is his inside game'. And they achieved this basically because they had superior level of endurance, movement, and defense'.

When Alvarez has to really chase a fight, or force a fighter into fighting in a area where he can do his best work? Alvarez's lack of elite level endurance, and gears make's that sort of stylistic fight very difficult for him to win.

Benavidez vs Alvarez will be a great fight 'But I am not so sure Benavidez has all the attributes to really test Alvarez the same way Mayweather Junior or Bivol did'.

Stylistically I don't think this a bad fight for Alvarez 'It is dangerous fight, but we can all envision a way for Alvarez to win strategically' etc.

Benavidez has a good chin and high activity with both hands. high energy.

even if Canelo starts out winning 5 rounds, Canelo is going to gas very quickly.

what do you think benevidez would've done to that charlo?

If canelo wanted that the fight is right there for him to take,. he could have had that at any time for his last 3 fights all at 168. There is a reason they didnt take this match. David definitely would sell more tickets than Ryder and more so than Jermell or GGG 3 as well. Canelo is 3 fights past his Bivol loss at this point, hes past his post loss "tune up".

Canelo doesn’t like to fight at a high pace and he doesn’t like to pushed onto the back foot. Benavidez will do both. His size, speed, strength and volume will definitely give Canelo big problems.

It’s a 50/50 fight for me, but I’d lean towards Benavidez.
                  Alvarez has suspect stamina

I always thought an elite swarmer would capitalize on it.

In David B we finally have a high volume pressure fighter

Would be a good fight. Everything points to Benavidez winning but at the same time, Canelo has a lot of experience and he knows how to handle a lot of different styles. Benavidez is a pressure fighter but Canelo has the style to make him pay for that. Hopefully it happens but i wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't.

I’m sure the suits wouldn’t mind if David is the next face of boxing

A high action Mexican with the size to fight in big man weight classes and go up
