What do you expect? Oscar is a typical promoter. I am surprised Oscar hasn't said that they are negotiating a rematch with Mayweather for the fall. Arum used that BS line about 100 times in five years, and some of the dumber fans would probably believe it if Oscar said it.

Oscar has done a credible job of conning gullible fans. Cotto said from the beginning that he wasn't sure if he would fight Golovkin and if he did, the fight would be at a catchweight. Oscar and Alvarez reeled in gullible fans by initially saying that Alvarez would definitely fight Golovin at 160. Then, slowly but surely, they started backing off that claim until they have come to this point - the point where they are not willing to fight Golovin at any time or any weight. Brilliant!

The WBC already reneged on its order that the winner of Cotto/Alvarez must fight Golovkin next. There is no way in hell they are going to strip their new Mexican Golden Boy of the WBC title.
...how much do you want to bet taht canelo will either lose his title or vacate......u don't know much about history of mandatorys do you...Mike Tyson was stripped of his wbc title for failure to fight his mandatory lennox Lewis ....and forced to pay 4 million in compensation.....no one at that time was as big as Mike Tyson and he makes canelo look like chicken feed....secondly Don king was also involved and he could do nothing about it......you don't know much about law and rules do you....if the WBC try to change the signed contract they will be sued to f@ck this time....in fact I got a reply from the WBC last week satiating that Golovkin was and is the mandatory to canelo....and they must meet....they will only delay if they again pay a fee to golovkin to step to the side.....Mark my words that's why de la hoya visited the Cowboys stadium....canelo will either vacate or face golovkin ...let's see

Lara doesn't speak English, so it's not him making Twitter posts.

And why should GGG seek Lara. Lara brings him nothing, no fan base, no PPV status, and just a bunch of excuses on why GGG fights smaller guys (although Lara rehydrates to 170 like GGG).

I'm pretty sure Tyson Fury beats GGG, so what. Maybe not. Ward and GGG are not in the same division, GGG isn't mandatory to any belt wards wants. In fact, GGG fighting Ward would be him challenging himself.

GGG v Canelo is a mandatory fight, one Canelo knew he'd be called on to make if he fought for the MW lineal, Ring Mag, and WBC title. It's a natural contest between two MW who walk into the ring about the same weight

No one is asking Canelo to jump up two division to fight a guy who is much heavier, taller and longer.

Nor has GGG said they wouldn't do it, only they want it to be a big fight. Fit now Ward v. GGG would get hardcore fans, but Ward is hasn't been active enough to push that fight into major PPV success. Loefller said yesterday that if Ward rebuilds, and it becomes a big fight, they'd do it,

GGG v Canelo is big now, and only risks losing steam if pushed a few years away.
We get it! GGG will NEVER move up. And you will jack-off to ALL the Peter Pan's, Cedric Monrowe's, U****a's off the world he fights.. But when do you just say STOP!!!! Fighting those Wal-Mart Employees 4x a year???

Alvarez/Golovkin would build alot bigger if Alvarez would fight some real competition. Fighting Khan makes Alvarez look like a protected hype-job.

Canelo is already a huge draw! Everyone has seen him against Trout, Mayweather, Lara and Cotto. It's GGG that needs some real competition to build this fight. The build up would've been better if GGG was fighting someone better than Wade.

Canelo has never fought above 155 lbs. in his entire career while Golovkin is a career middleweight. While Canelo has good wins on his resume (Trout, Lara, Cotto), none of those performances were dominating in nature and each of those guys is much smaller, much weaker, and much less talented than Golovkin. When you take that into consideration, and realize that Canelo squeaked by those guys at a weight 5-6 pounds lighter than where Golovkin wants to fight him, you'd see that any result other than a Golovkin wipeout would be surprising.
I can only speak for myself but I don't care an iota if Golovkin or any other fighter gains crossover status - I just want to see good fights between the best. Tete and Rigo would be a great matchup for me to see. Neither will ever gain crossover status.

I take your point about the fighters on Canelo's resume. But 3 things >>>
1/ Golovkin haters love to point out that Lara would be a step up from anything on GGG's resume and a real challenge. Can't have it both ways.
2/ I saw things with the Cotto fight that made me think that Canelo is still improving. His defense was excellent. His hand speed is great.
3/ If Canelo came up to 157/8 he's probably have more strength and still keep his hand speed and defense.
So I'm sticking to my 60/40 in favor of Golovkin until I see evidence of vulnerability or enhancement in either fighter.
Ideally I'd like to see Canelo further improve. Everybody is expecting him to KO Khan but if he would show better footwork than previously and get Khan out of there in 1st or 2nd round that would be great.

                      I'm calling it right now!

"Saul "Canelo" Alvarez lost his title today on the scales by not making the agreed upon weight. He will pay Amir Khan a fee per pound over the agreed upon weight."
