Comments Thread For: Arum: Haymon, Wilder Were Wise To Walk Away From DAZN Deal

Arum is very clever but full of BS. He's clearly thinking about himself and has no interest in doing what's best for the fighter. Manny is still fighting for cripes' sake. Arum just wants the rematch with Fury and knows that the DAZN deal would make it nearly impossible. I think his projections are way off due to illegal streaming.

People don't understand Pac man had already lost in the Mayweather situation, a loss to either doesn't work in this one.

So to be clear, he could've fought Breazeale on DAZN for 20m then Joshua twice for 40m a time, regardless of how he did in the first fight and that was it. No ties, no further options, just the mandatory then the two Joshua fights for $100m.

Al Haymon didn't exist to Bob arum a couple weeks ago, now he is being applauded and complemented..

"Then, next year, when Fury and Wilder fight, the amounts that were offered are miniscule compared to the kind of revenues that will come from a Wilder-Fury fight. That’s the theory." Hmmm, theory, vs actual $$$ offer. That's a tuffy.

Understand what's happening here. It's not really about Wilder or Joshua, it's nothing about cowardice from either man, it's about a fight between alternative models of how to deliver boxing to US fight fans and this fight, as the biggest that can be made right now, is simply the battleground where these networks have chosen to fight.
US fight fans who are celebrating Wilder refusing this offer should look at how these decisions affect their own pockets. Compare the amount they would've had to pay for two PPV fights on Showtime PPV, say $180 for two months of DAZN subscription, $40 under the new plan, or $99 if they want all of DAZN's programming for the next year.
Wilder's team are backing the old way. They've turned down an offer that was above what the market would likely deliver in the hope they'll get more eventually and maybe they will or maybe they won't. What is clear is that the only place this additional revenue is coming from is the pockets of US boxing fans.
